The Roberts Nehmer Mckee logo is derived from the symbol of the ancient Egyptian goddess Maat (pronounced muh-aht). 

The Egyptians believed that Maat  

was responsible for the rational order and perfect balance of all things in the universe - particularly law, morality, justice and truth. 

In Egyptian hieroglyphics, Maat was represented as a goddess with an ostrich feather on her head or, more simply, as an ostrich feather. 

In Egyptian mythological underworld, Maat judged the lives of the dead by weighing their hearts, on scales, against her feather. 

The Goddess of Justice (commonly depicted holding a set of scales) adopted by courts in the modern world as a symbol of blind justice, is thought to have originated from Maat.
